Tanztheater Wuppertal: directors to stay one year more
Bettina Wagner-Bergelt and Roger Christmann

WUPPERTAL At its meeting on 23rd February and on the recommendation of the Tanztheater Wuppertal’s Board of Directors, the Finance Committee of the City of Wuppertal decided to extend the contracts of the company’s joint directors by one year. Bettina Wagner-Bergelt and Roger Christmann were due to leave at the end of July 2021 but will now remain at the Tanztheater’s helm until 31st July of next year.

Uwe Schneidewind, Mayor of Wuppertal: “Over the past few months, there have been detailed discussions with the Tanztheater’s staff and Board of Directors about the company’s future artistic directorship. Due to (among other factors) the coronavirus crisis, which has severely limited our ability to hold face-to-face meetings, our discussions and considerations have not yet been concluded. I am therefore very pleased that the present management team, which has successfully led the company for the last two years, has agreed to continue its work for another year.”

Bettina Wagner-Bergelt and Roger Christmann reacted to the extension of their contracts: “We are delighted to hear that the Board of Directors and Tanztheater staff have such confidence in our work. In recent months our entire focus has been on leading the company through the current pandemic in the best possible way. By continuing in our posts for another season, we hope to be able to complete the artistic projects that had to be postponed last year, and to present them to our audiences in Wuppertal and beyond in the coming year."
