MILWAUKEE Milwaukee Ballet seeks emerging choreographers to enter its biennial Genesis International Choreographic Competition, the winner of which will receive a $5,000 cash prize AND a commission for a second work.
Applications must be submitted by October 31, 2025. Interested applicants should submit a link to a choreographic reel that contains two excerpts of previous work no more than two years old, along with a written proposal, biography in English, and a headshot. After initial application, three finalists will be challenged to create an original 20-minute work in three weeks starting mid-February 2026, with four performances March 13-15, 2026. Transportation to and lodging in Milwaukee are included.
For over 20 years, this opportunity has put the spotlight on up-and-coming dance makers, many of whom have gone on to further choreographic success. Past competitors have included Kenneth Tindall, Nelly van Bommel, Gabrielle Lamb, and many more.
