LUGANO -From June 11th to 16th, Lugano and Canton of Ticino will be hosting Lugano Dance Project, a biennial contemporary dance festival grown out of an idea of Michel Gagnon and Carmelo Rifici and curated by Lorenzo Conti.

Five new productions, site-specific performances, workshops, discussions, screenings, and Tanzfaktor, a biennial project by Reso – Dance Network Switzerland, designed to encourage and foster talented young Swiss dancers supported by LAC, taking place on June 11th. A rich schedule of events that will be held at LAC and in some of the most significant Canton Ticino architectural locations.

The show programme starts with the debut of Quiet Light (June 13, LAC), in which Cindy Van Acker conducts two performers in an empty space that reveals the theatre in its fundamental state. On Friday 14, Teatro Foce will host the debut of Landless, a new creation by Christos Papadopoulos and Georgios Kotstifakis. A solo performance in which the choreographer returns to the study of the body as an unknown territory, drawing inspiration from modern and postmodern architecture to build a new perspective on its basic functions.

On Saturday 15, Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli on Monte Tamaro will be putting on Cosmorama, written and performed by the choreographer Nicola Galli, along with Giulio Petrucci. Inspired by the close relationship between dance and the evocative Chapel designed by the architect Mario Botta. On the same evening Sala Teatro at LAC will be hosting the European premiere of Symphonie de coeurs, a creation by the Canadian choreographer and documentarian Rhodnie Désir, who will transform LAC stage into a great beating heart full of humanity.

On Sunday 16 Teatro San Materno in Ascona will host Released by Ioannis Mandafounis, who created a performance inspired by theater's extraordinary architecture. The audience is invited to move following a route that winds through quiet, secluded indoor spaces and outdoor spaces that reflect the sounds of the city.

Moreover Lugano Dance Project will also be putting on site-specific performances: on Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 the former watchmaker's shop Diantus Watch in Castel San Pietro will be hosting MOBILE HOMES – Album degli abitanti del Nuovo Mondo ("Album of the inhabitants of the New World"), a project by mk / Michele Di Stefano that creates connections between complementary specialist skills related to the theme of corporeality and living. mk will also present the performance Atmosferologia – Veduta > Lugano (June 15th), a project dedicated to cities and the perspective view of the urban landscape; the view of the city through the window of Sala 1 at LAC is transformed by the audio in headphones into a place that floats between present and possible.

On Thursday 13 the dancer and choreographer from Ticino Tiziana Arnaboldi will be presenting Autour du corps – Omaggio al Bauhaus ("A tribute to Bauhaus") at the Asilo Ciani. The work seeks a force for renewal through the exploration of new visions of the body and space, starring Marta Ciappina and Eleonora Chiocchini. On Saturday 15 Maria Hassabi will be starring in White Out in the Hall of the LAC, a solo piece she created for I'll Be Your Mirror, a solo exhibition dedicated to her at the Tai Kwun Contemporary gallery in Hong Kong in 2023.
