TOULOUSE Under the aegis of Toulouse Métropole Local Authorities, the Établissement public du Capitole has brought together the Opéra national du Capitole, the Orchestre National and the Halle aux grains since 1st January 2023. The Établissement has released a call for “Director of Dance for the Opéra national du Capitole”. Applications are open until May 2nd.

The Ballet de l’Opéra national du Capitole
With 35 female and male dancers and two ballet directors, from over 10 different nationalities, the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Capitole is an academic style ballet with an international focus and recognised by both public and professionals alike.
It produces a variety of choreographic programmes throughout the season – both in Toulouse and on tour across France and the world – and often performs vocal productions. It has a vast repertoire, from the classic ballets to more contemporary works. The Ballet du Capitole has been delighted to produce performances of Giselle and Don Quixote, as well as choreographies of Roland Petit, Rudolf Noureev, Jiří Kylián, William Forsythe, Carolyn Carlson, Thierry Malandain and many more.
Role
Under the authority of the artistic director of the Opera and the Director General of the establishment, the director of dance will have the primary role of defining and coordinating an ambitious artistic project falling within the general framework and in line with the financial, human and technical resources of the establishment.
Boasting deep-rooted knowledge of the world of dance and its many networks, the director should propose a rich and diverse programme of performances which perfectly respect the identity of the ballet and promote the diversity of talents within the group. Relying on his/her
national and international professional network, s/he works in the framework of co-production and partnerships.
S/he oversees the continued national and international excellence of the establishment’s reputation and entrusts guest choreographers’ projects for choreographic creation or new productions on the repertoire and oversees and assists in the production process. S/he also brings life to the already-rich repertoire of the group. S/he oversees and monitors, alongside the production director, the schedule and production of regional tours in France and abroad.
The Director will be responsible for daily management and administration of the Ballet with a clear focus on general team management from recruitment, career support, reconversion, organisation, implementation of a demanding and peaceful working environment and encouraging the development potential of artists.
S/he will act as a permanent link between various teams of artists, technicians, and administrative employees at the establishment. The Director will also seek unifying projects for the establishment. In collaboration with dedicated teams, s/he will make proposals and be actively involved in cultural initiatives and artistic education as well as playing a key social role for the ballet. 
Profile
The successful candidate should:
- Propose an audacious vision which complies with the aims and objectives of the Ballet de l’Opéra national du Capitole
- Be a recognised artistic personality in the choreographic sector and have a large national and international professional network
- Have tried and tested experience as ballet director
- Have confirmed team and project management capacities, and be able to bring together the exacting standards of dance in a peaceful working environment.
- Have a large national and international network in the choreographic sector
- Be fluent in French and in English.
