Tanz nrw 25 at the Pina Bausch Centre “under construction” presents "THE DAY I BECAME A CLOUD" by Emanuele Soavi
06/05/2025
WUPPERTAL On May 14 and 15, 2025, the production THE DAY I BECAME A CLOUD by the Italian choreographer Emanuele Soavi for his Incompany will be a guest at the Pina Bausch Centre “under construction” as part of the festival tanz nrw 25. In a multi-layered parcours of dance, performance, language and sound, the production explores the tension between presence and absence - individually, collectively and artistically.
Created at the invitation of the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris and the Max Ernst Museum Brühl, the work is an examination of the question of how we remain visible - as people, as artists, as bodies in motion. Together with composer and sound artist Johannes Malfatti, Emanuele Soavi and his team develop an immersive spatial experience that is characterized by a precise, poetic physicality and an impressive soundscape.
The choice of venue is deliberate: the future Pina Bausch Centre, a place in the making, opens up as a space of possibility - open, changeable. The architecture reflects the central theme of the production: What does it mean to be visible in a world that is constantly changing? Where does visibility begin - and where does it disappear again?
THE DAY I BECAME A CLOUD is part of the state-wide festival tanz nrw 25, which in its tenth edition presents current works of contemporary dance at special locations throughout NRW. In Wuppertal, the festival is curated by the Kulturbüro Wuppertal with choreographers Thusnelda Mercy and Pascal Merighi and will take place at venues such as UTOPIASTADT, INSEL, Tanz Station - Barmer Bahnhof and the future Pina Bausch Centre.
