The 4th edition of the Bologna Ballet Competition at Teatro Duse

BOLOGNA From October 23rd to 25th, the Theather Duse in Bologna will welcome the 4th edition of the Bologna Ballet Competition, international event dedicated to ballet students and young dancers.
The competition was created to showcase and support talents and emerging dancers by offering outstanding scholarships and professional opportunities. The event is organized by the National Dance Foundation from Belgrade in collaboration with the Teatro Duse, under the direction of Aja Jung, founder and director of the Belgrade Dance Festival.
The participants will be judged by a distinguished international jury composed by internationally renowned choreographers, dancers, directors, teachers, and critics:
Javier Torres, ballet master and director of the Acosta Danza Foundation from London
Elisabetta Ceron, artistic director, ballet teacher, dance critic and journalist
Enrico Morelli, director of the Agora Coaching Project
Elek Tibor Zsolt, ballet teacher at Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera
Aja Jung, director of the Belgrade Dance Festival and Ballet of the Serbian National Ballet
Eriberto Verardi, ballet master, director of the Balletto di Verona and Ballet School of Balletto di Verona
Paolo Mangiola, dancer, choreographer, international ballet master
Attila Kozma, artistic director of the Miskolc Ballet and Hungarian Horizont Dance Festival
Special guest of the Competition will be Renato Zanella, artistic director of the San Carlo Theatre Ballet in Naples and well-known choreographer.
Another special guest will be Jasmin Vardimon, choreographer and director of the Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company from London, who’s assistents will hold an audition on October 25th focused on participants from 17 – 21 years old, and selectiong the dancers for JV2 company.
All masterclasses and choreographic workshops during the competition are free of charge for the participants and will be leaded by Ivette Rodriguez (National Ballet of Cuba), Maya Grnja (Serbian National Thetar’s Ballet), Javier Torres (Carlos Acosta Foundation from London), Camilla Curiel (Jasmin Vardimon Dance Company), Enrico Morelli (Agora Dance Project), Elek Tibor Zsolt (Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera), and many others.
The event will be presented by journalist Ilaria Sambucci, who will guide the audience through the competition and the Gala evening entitled “Stars of Today and Tomorrow”, on 24th of October.
As during the last editions, the Bologna Ballet Competition is gathering participants from Italy, Norway, Romania, Germany, Greece, Serbia, Hungary, Russia, Ucraine, Cyprus, Georgia, Argentina, Turque, Malta and Bulgaria, while the winners have the oportunity to share the stage with the dancers from different ballet and dance companies. This year, the Gala evening “Stars of Today and Tommorow” will present the principals dancers from the Ballet of the Serbian National Theater and dances from London’s Acosta Danza.
The opening evening, on October 23rd is reserved for a Triple Bill signed by Annabele Lopez Ochoa, and performed by the Ballet of the Serbian National Theater, a company founded in 1950, and since November 2024 directed by Aja Jung. The program is composed by the pieces Delusional Beauty (originaly created for the Washington Ballet), La Pluie (originaly created for the Ballet of Grand Theater of Geneve) and Linea Recta (originaly created for Ballet Hispanico from New York). As all the other programs, the performaces are free of charge for the participants of the Bologna Ballet Competition, while everyone is encouraged to take part in professional discussions after the shows.
