VIENNA The third ImPulsTanz speaks about first times, long-standing friendships as well as performance in special settings.
Awarded the prestigious Praemium Imperiale last week, she now takes to the stage in Vienna: in BREL, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker joins forces with Rosas dancer Solal Mariotte to perform the chansons of Jacques Brel at Akademietheater (28,30,31 July).
In Thrice, celebrated Damien Jalet creates a powerful ritual of movement and sound with star saxophonist Bendik Giske on stage on the premiere at Volkstheater.
Meg Stuart & Francisco Camacho / Damaged Goods & EIRA present steal you for a moment – their mutual abduction ‘for a moment’ to Sardinian ruins – an expedition into their 35-year friendship to the music of PJ Harvey at Schauspielhaus. Meg Stuart’s new book Let’s Not Get Used to This Place is also presented in conversation with Burgtheater dramaturge Jeroen Versteele and Maria F. Scaroni on 27 July.
Speaking of long-standing friendships: Akram Khan was a guest at ImPulsTanz for the first time in 2001 as part of the [8:tension] Young Choreographers’ Series. 25 years later, the company’s new piece can be seen. Thikra: Night of Remembering brings the collaboration with the award-winning visual artist Manal AlDowayan and musician Aditya Prakash to Burgtheater. On stage a cast of 14 female dancers who combine Bharatanatyam and western contemporary dance. Expect fireworks ofdance, music and visuals (29 July -1 August)
