VIENNA As one of the most frequently performed ballet works, The Nutcracker continues to be staged in various productions around the world to this day. Based on this fairy-tale story set to Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky's famous musical masterpiece, choreographer Eno Peci has created his own version, Mein erster Nussknacker (My First Nutcracker), with students and the youth company of the Ballet Academy of the Vienna State Opera. He presents at the NEST a condensed version from today's perspective in his concise style with a humorous touch, especially for a young audience aged six and up, whom he playfully introduces to the world of dance. Premiere, 25 March then 26,27 March.
The enchanting story about the mysterious Drosselmeyer and the girl Klara, who magically receives a nutcracker as a gift, takes us on an imaginative journey between dream and reality. Beginning in a nut and chocolate shop, a group of children experience exciting adventures, even bravely winning a battle against burglars! As a thank you, the children receive nuts from different countries around the world, which are represented by rousing dances from the respective cultures. A grand celebration concludes the not-so-sweet ballet.
Eno Peci shows that Tchaikovsky's classical music can be perfectly combined with contemporary dance vocabulary and brings the story of The Nutcracker to life.
