WUPPERTAL On 17 September, the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch opens its 2022/2023 season at the Wuppertal Opera House with Água by Pina Bausch, which was last performed in 2016. The season opening is followed by additional performances on 18, 20, 21, 23, 24 and 25 September 2022. Created in 2001 after a research trip by the ensemble to Brazil, the piece is gentle and life-affirming. It features opulent, large-scale film projections by the designer Peter Pabst and music by Baden Powell, Julien Jacob, Mickey Hart, Tom Waits, The Tiger Lillies, St Germain, Leftfield, Caetano Veloso and others.

In September and October, the internationally renowned artist collective Rimini Protokoll is in Wuppertal with its audio tour Remote X, part of the artistic programme of the preparatory phase of the Pina Bausch Centre, curated by Bettina Milz. The project invites citizens to discover their own city through a new kind of exploratory tour. It is a collective audio walk and an outdoor performance in one: 50 people, equipped with headphones, go on an expedition around different locations in Wuppertal. They are guided by a synthetic voice like the ones in our satnavs. From the outside, the group’s progress through the city looks like a precisely timed choreography. From the inside, it feels more and more like a collective film. With every step, the computerised voice sounds more familiar.
