BERLIN At its meeting on October 8, 2026, the Board of Trustees of the Berlin Opera Foundation («Stiftung Oper in Berlin») approved the extension of Christian Spuck’s contract as Intendant and choreographer of the Staatsballett Berlin until July 31, 2033. Christian Spuck has been leading the Staatsballett since August 1, 2023, and was awarded the German Dance Prize this year. His current contract runs until July 31, 2028.

The Senator for Culture and Societal Cohesion, Stefan Evers, said: «Berlin is one of the great cultural metropolises of the world. Whether it remains that way depends primarily on the people who shape our cultural landscape. Christian Spuck is one of them. He represents artistic excellence, courage, and the ambition to continually rethink ballet. With his contract extension, we ensure the Staatsballett Berlin maintains continuity at the highest international level. This is excellent news for our city.»

Christian Spuck expressed his delight: "The continued collaboration with the Staatsballett Berlin means a great deal to me.
